Inspiring the next generation to become creatives of the future.
LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT

To mark Blue Peter’s 60th anniversary, Historic Royal Palaces and Blue Peter ran a ‘Design a Dragon Competition', for children between the ages of 8-15.  This proved to be one of the most popular competitions that Blue Peter has ran at CBBC. Together with Craig Hatto, working on behalf of Historic Royal Palaces, the Blue Peter team we devised the competition and invited esteemed author and illustrator, Cressida Cowell to help judge the entrants. The winner saw their dragon design developed and placed on The Great Pagoda at Kew for the Blue Peter anniversary year.

The winning designer embarked on an amazing learning experience; taking their initial sketch design through to the finished article, employing cutting-edge design technology. The way in which the design industry donated their time, skills and resources to realise the young creative's design, was truly altruistic.

All five runners up designs were further developed collaboratively with Historic Royal Palaces Learning and Engagement team and specialist community artists. The results went on display in the form of an exhibition and trail at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.
